Freight Specialist
The Freight Specialist serves adual-function role within the brokerage operation. During standard businesshours, this position sources capacity, negotiates rates, and manages spotfreight. Outside of peak daytime coverage, the role is responsible forservicing fall off freight and must still be executed to protect customercommitments and service expectations.
This position plays a critical role inmaintaining continuity of service, recovering exceptions, and ensuringhigh-priority and contract freight is covered, tracked, and communicatedeffectively. The Freight Specialist must be able to pivot quickly betweenproactive sales activity and reactive problem-solving while maintaining a highstandard of customer and carrier communication.
Responsibilities
- Source and secure carrier capacity for spot and short-term freight.
- Negotiate rates with carriers to balance service requirements and margin expectations.
- Build and maintain strong carrier relationships to support long-term network growth.
- Tender loads and confirm carrier commitments in accordance with operational standards.
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of load, carrier, and rate data into brokerage systems.
- Provide proactive communication to internal teams regarding coverage status and risks.
- Secure replacement capacity within required service timeframes to protect customer commitments.
- Communicate carrier acceptance, rejection, or removal decisions professionally and clearly.
- Track and monitor high-priority and at-risk shipments through delivery.
- Execute timely check calls and visibility updates to ensure freight integrity.
- Respond to carrier issues, service failures, and exceptions within defined response-time expectations.
- Communicate delays, service changes, or recovery actions clearly to internal stakeholders.
- Initiate and follow through on new carrier onboarding as needed.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain or similar field required. 1 year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of education required.
- Prior carrier sales, brokerage, or operations experience strongly preferred

- Pay Range: $45,007.59-$69,574.81
- Pay Grade: 7
