Night Dispatcher
The Dispatcher is a key operations link between Lew Thompson, Professional drivers, and our customers. This position works to track and direct a group of experienced professional drivers, provide excellent customer relations, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and other tasks as directed.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and regulatory compliance
- Monitor truck repairs and ensuring their regular maintenance
- Review the shift turnover from the previous shift and take the required action, including involving other managers and customers as necessary.
Other Duties:
- Track and trace the trucks throughout the shift.
- Maintain positive and productive communication with drivers to deliver on time, prevent service failures, and reduce turnover.
- Coordination with truck drivers about changes in routes and other situations
- Receive ETAs and PTAs and manage throughout the shift.
- Receive confirmations of load assignments.
- Slip seat equipment as necessary.
Customer Service duties may include:
- Provide excellent customer relations
- Monitor and trace loads so that follow up can be made to customers regarding late pickups and or deliveries, as well as any other load changes that may occur.
- Anticipate and facilitate problem resolution on load issues to meet or exceed total satisfaction of customers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bilingual – Spanish
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills
- Ability to handle difficult situations calmly, especially during customer complaints.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and Driver HOS
- Analytical skills to analyze problems like unanticipated road blocks
- Technological and computer skills particularly in transportation software a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and organization skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced and always changing environment
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Products Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised
Education/Experience
- Valid CDL required
- High School diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree in transportation management or equivalent experience a plus 1+ years dispatcher experience
