The Shop Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the shop operates safely, efficiently, and with a high standard of quality. This position is responsible for overseeing daily workflow, assigning work to technicians, maintaining accountability, and ensuring repairs are completed accurately and on time. The Shop Lead works closely with technicians to keep operations running smoothly while maintaining clear communication and a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

Safety

  • Enforce PPE requirements and safe work practices at all times
  • Immediately stop any unsafe work or behavior
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant shop environment

Work Planning & Shop Flow

  • Ensure all work is documented on open work orders before work begins
  • Assign work daily based on equipment downtime priority and technician skill level
  • Adjust assignments as needed to prevent workflow stalls or technician idle time
  • Review work orders for accuracy and completeness and close them once all assigned work is finished

Technician Leadership & Accountability

  • Set clear expectations for technician productivity, quality, and workplace behavior
  • Provide coaching and address performance issues early, resolving concerns the same day when possible
  • Hold technicians accountable for accurate diagnostics, time management, and documentation

Communication

  • Clearly communicate daily priorities and expectations to technicians
  • Proactively escalate delays, parts shortages, or operational constraints
  • Maintain consistent communication to ensure there are no surprises in workflow or repair timelines

Quality Control

  • Verify repairs are completed properly before equipment is released
  • Help prevent repeat repairs by ensuring proper diagnostics and repair processes are followed

Systems & Documentation

  • Ensure accurate labor clocking, parts usage tracking, and repair notes within shop systems
  • Maintain proper documentation to support operational efficiency and reporting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to understand, communicate, read, and write the English language.
  • Must have the physical ability to lift 50 lbs. on a consistent basis and 95 lbs. on a frequent basis to mount tires.
  • Must have physical ability to climb, bend and stoop.
  • Must have physical ability to work while on feet at all times, ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have tools to perform skills for this level

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
