Brokerage Trailer Manager

Chattanooga, TN

The Brokerage Trailer Manager is responsible for overseeing trailer pool management, network optimization, and customer alignment across the brokerage and operations network. This role owns trailer allocation strategy, asset utilization, and trailer visibility while ensuring operational execution aligns with customer demand and business objectives. The position blends hands-on trailer management with data-driven planning and network optimization, leveraging analytics to improve utilization, reduce loss, and enhance overall service performance. 

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage Trailer Coordinators by setting priorities, establishing performance expectations, and driving accountability to KPIs.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development to improve individual and team performance.
  • Oversee trailer pool performance, ensuring accurate tracking, visibility, and availability of all equipment.
  • Lead efforts to locate and recover missing or lost trailers; coordinate with operations, carriers, customers, and claims as needed.
  • ⁠Serve as the operational link between brokerage, fleet, and customer teams.
  • Maintain accurate trailer records, reporting, and documentation across systems.
  • Audit detention activity and identify missed billing or optimization opportunities.
  • Analyze trailer utilization, availability, and customer demand patterns to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Recommend data-driven solutions such as pool resizing, repositioning strategies, or network redesign.
  • Manage day-to-day trailer operations, including planning, coordination, and performance tracking.
  • Build and maintain relationships with trailer leasing companies, carriers, and key customers.
  • Produce and analyze reports related to trailer utilization, last load data, and pool performance.
  • Present insights and recommendations to leadership in daily/weekly operational reviews.
  • Ensure data integrity across reporting systems and planning tools.
  • Translate performance trends into actionable strategies that improve efficiency and profitability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced and demanding environment.
  • Highly organized, comfortable with prioritizing, and making decisions with good discernment.  
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or function in a team environment sharing responsibilities, roles and accountability.
  • Adaptability and creative problem-solving skills are a must.
  • Must have high level of familiarity with DOT regulations and other FMCSA rules.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or similar field required. 1 year of relevant work experience may be substituted for each year of education required.
  • 3+ years’ experience in the transportation industry required.
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.

The posted range reflects the full pay band for the position. The expected pay range below represents where most candidates are hired, based on experience, skills, and internal equity. Candidates with more extensive or highly relevant experience may be considered toward the higher end of the overall pay band.

  • Expected Pay Range: $56,147.00-$64,161.93
  • Full Pay Range: $56,147.00-$88,833.00
  • Pay Grade: 9
