Brokerage Accessorial Specialist

Chattanooga, TN

The Accessorial Specialist is responsible for the collection and disbursement of accessorial transactions. This includes identifying, validating, and facilitating the recovery of accessorial revenue, while also monitoring, investigating, and authorizing accessorial settlements paid to carrier partners. This position works closely with customers, operations, Billing and other cross-functional teams to maintain a low cost revenue ratio. The Accessorial Specialist plays a critical role in maximizing revenue opportunities, minimizing cost, maintaining accurate records and supporting operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Review operational reports to identify detention and other accessorial charges eligible for customer billing.
  • Monitor cost revenue reports to ensure all detention settlements are eligible for customer reimbursement.
  • ⁠Review and validate all carrier accessorial requests, examine all related material, and enforce settlement guidelines to ensure all carrier accessorial payments are permitted.
  • Contact customers via phone and email to review detention events, validate charges, and obtain billing approval when required.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update customer-specific detention spreadsheets and tracking documentation.
  • Enter, update, and maintain detention and accessorial information within customer web portals and systems.
  • Partner with Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) to establish accessorial billing processes for new customer accounts.
  • Provide backup support to CSRs by scheduling appointments and assisting with customer service activities as needed.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies related to detention billing, accessorial charges, and driver compensation.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal departments and external customers to facilitate issue resolution and process improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify billing opportunities and discrepancies.
  • Ability to analyze reports and interpret operational data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Basic understanding of transportation operations, accessorial charges, detention billing, and driver compensation practices preferred.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Higher education preferred
  • Previous transportation or logistics industry experience preferred.
  • Experience working with customer portals and web-based reporting systems preferred.

The posted range reflects the full pay band for the position. The expected pay range below represents where most candidates are hired, based on experience, skills, and internal equity. Candidates with more extensive or highly relevant experience may be considered toward the higher end of the overall pay band.

  • Expected Pay Range: $17.00-$19.30
  • Full Pay Range: $17.00-$26.70
  • Pay Grade: 5
