Extended Coverage Fleet Manager

Kingsport, TN

The Extended Coverage Fleet Manager is a key operations link between the organization, drivers, and customers. They coach and mentor a group of experienced drivers across multiple customer segments and achieve specific customer service and key company goals. Due to the complex nature of managing multiple accounts, the role will coordinate fleet activity to optimize driver and asset utilization and may also engage in planning activities as well as customer service inquiries.  

Responsibilities

  • Manage Dedicated Fleet of Professional Drivers.
  • Assist in Managing messaging for overall operations.
  • Responsible for Service Failures (Driver, Dispatch, Planning), Communication, Equipment, Utilization, Driver Turnover, Fuel (MPG, out of network, idle time of equipment, out of route miles), and Safety
  • Track and trace the trucks in the morning and through the day. 
  • Track and manage home time requests in accordance with accounts expectations. 
  • Maintain positive and productive communication with drivers to deliver on time, prevent service failures, and reduce turnover.  
  • ⁠Receive ETAs and PTAs and manage throughout the day. 
  • Receive confirmations of load assignments. 
  • Develop an effective working relationship with assigned professional drivers and understand the needs and performance of each professional driver. 
  • Communicate and establish expectations for performance, conduct, and safety, and provide ongoing feedback for the professional driver. 
  • Monitor and trace loads so that follow-up can be made to customers regarding late pickups and/or deliveries, as well as any other load changes that may occur. 
  • Excellent Customer Service to internal & external customers.
  • Follow established procedures and best practices to ensure consistency and quality. 
  • Ability to be multifaceted in knowledge and skills in all Landair Extended Coverage Accounts.
  • Practice continual cross training development across all Landair Extended Coverage Accounts. 
  • Assist drivers with Advances and/or Fuel issues.
  • Respond to all driver messages in a timely manner
  • Accurately update AS400 and/or TMW data. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to manage large or multiple fleets and customer accounts across the organization. 
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Products. 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically. 
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and Driver HOS is necessary to be successful in this role. 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and always changing environment. 
  • Ability to manage people effectively.  Ability to be self-motivated and work unsupervised. 

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or similar field preferred. 
  • AS400 and/or TMW experience is preferred.  
  • 3+ years of fleet management experience.

The posted range reflects the full pay band for the position. The expected pay range below represents where most candidates are hired, based on experience, skills, and internal equity. Candidates with more extensive or highly relevant experience may be considered toward the higher end of the overall pay band.

  • Expected Pay Range: $49,657.32-$56,492.80
  • Full Pay Range: $49,657.32-$77,923.79
  • Pay Grade: 8
