Fleet Operations Manager

Chattanooga, TN

Managing driver managers, setting and informing KPI goals.  Coaching and teaching driver managers on objective rules of driving.  Additionally, teaching soft skills and assisting in difficult situations involving drivers.  Gathering data for executive management.  Setting and defining operational policies.  Tracking and approving time off, advances, and extra coverage. 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Coaching, mentoring, measuring, and disciplining Driver Managers. 
  • Assist in resolving driver issues. 
  • Collaborate with Director and VP’s to create capacity in overbooked situations.  
  • Work with Sales Department in developing new accounts. 
  • Direct workflow among Driver Managers. 
  • Administrative duties associated with Driver management staff. 
  • Monitor compliance regarding policies and procedures within fleets. 
  • Communicate issues with Director and VP’s of Operations promptly. 
  • Network with other departments to ensure quick resolutions to issues that span departments. 
  • Work with orientation and recruiting to ensure our incoming drivers are correctly informed of policies and procedures.
  • Participate in customer and driver conference calls.
  • Create and upkeep policies and training materials. 
  • Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of Covenant Transport Services.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.   
  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of DOT requirements 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  
  • Minimum of 4 years transportation industry experience required.  Fleet Management, Load Planning, and Account Management preferred. 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Additional, professional certifications and achievements preferred
  • Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring direct reports preferred
  • Experience with rapid and complex changing work environment   
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve

Covenant’s compensation philosophy’s intent is to use a competitive total compensation strategy to determine the current market value of a position while also considering individual factors such as performance in current position, time in seat of current position, experience, level of responsibility/accountability, and longevity with the company. The system will be objective and non-discriminatory.

Pay Range: $56,146.95-$88,833.12

Pay Grade: 9
