Director, Carrier Operations
The Director of Carrier Operations will oversee, manage, and direct activity in support of day to day and long-term Solutions Brokerage service offerings. The role is responsible for managing and providing direction and input into the long-term design and execution of Solutions operations; ensuring that Solutions service and related financial performance goals are routinely accomplished. They will develop a strong team to ensure consistently high levels of operational execution and work closely with and support leadership in the execution of the Solutions business strategy.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the Solutions Carrier Operations teams are appropriately staffed (right number of personnel, required skills and relevant experience).
- Coach and develop all assigned personnel to enable consistently high levels of performance results.
- Direct and manage the development of structured and disciplined business processes to facilitate consistent high levels of performance (on time service, customer service, responsiveness, capacity coverage, carrier performance, etc.).
- Direct the execution of all related operations and capacity management processes to optimize productivity and results.
- Direct the selection and manage the use of appropriate technology to ensure that the Solutions operations teams are able to perform at consistently high levels.
- Ensure appropriate and adequate technology training to new hires and current personnel to optimize productivity levels and performance results.
- Ensure that the use of technology is supporting the execution of relevant Solutions operations processes.
- Develop an appropriate mix of metrics to ensure Solutions operations activity is effectively managed for all service mix offerings.
- Direct the use of appropriate leading and lag metrics with a focus on exception management to achieve operations and service and financial targets.
- Ensure the use of “big data” to analyze activity thoroughly and regularly to identify opportunities for improvement (better service, lower cost, improved customer value, etc.).
- Support Solutions Operations Managers and team members in the execution and performance of their respective responsibilities.
- Provide positive and constructive feedback on a regular basis and address performance issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Proactively and regularly reach out to all stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure satisfaction with Solutions performance and/or to address performance issues.
- Maintain effective relationships with all key stakeholders (internal and external) to help facilitate long term success for all parties.
- Collaborate with the Customer Team to increase customer opportunity, develop long term-strategic customer relationships, and foster customer growth and retention.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other Solutions functional areas and Covenant Logistics sales to ensure timely and effective responses to new business opportunities, RFPs, bids and new business startups.
- Oversee Operations Management personnel and ensure that both short and long-term objectives are met through the development and execution of appropriate business strategies and action plans.
- Direct activity for these areas as required to ensure the consistent delivery of Solutions service performance value proposition to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Support the SVP of Freight Management Operations in the preparation of the annual budget.
- Work closely to ensure that monthly operations budget targets are consistently being met.
- Initiate and collaborate to identify and affect improvement actions to ensure performance to Solutions financial targets.
- Be available to help resolve issues or address critical business situations.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, supply chain, or similar field required. 1 year of relevant work experience may be substituted for each year of education required.
- 7+ years transportation/logistics/supply chain industry experience required.
- 3+ years managing and developing personnel required.

- Pay Range: $92,002.96-$153,508.64
