Claims Specialist
Investigates, evaluates and resolves trucking claims involving Bodily Injury, Property Damage, and Cargo. Claims range from minor to moderate with severe claims assigned on a case-by-case basis. Investigates and evaluates liability and damages for the purposes of an optimal claim outcome. Promptly resolves and negotiates fair, cost effective, consistent and expedited settlements.
Responsibilities
- Investigates, evaluates and resolves trucking claims involving Bodily Injury, Property Damage, and Cargo.
- Handles claims with minor to moderate injuries/damages, with the occasional severe claim, assigned on a case-by-case basis.
- Serves as primary contact for internal and external communications with claimants, drivers, customers, and other parties to the claim.
- Ensures that the claim file is documented accurately and timely
- Completes investigation and action plan timely and follows up on such as subsequent information is received.
- Completes evaluation and reserving timely and follows up on such as subsequent information is received.
- Follows a proactive resolution mind set and suit avoidance while ensuring optimal claim outcomes while mitigating the need for pre litigation expense, if possible.
- Responsible for litigation and the hiring of counsel, including managing counsel and the litigation plan and budget.
- Responsible for attending peer reviews, suit roundtables and pre-mediation and pre-trial meetings per best practice requirements.
- Completes resolution strategy and negotiation strategy to assist in the resolution of the claim.
- Ensures that the resolution is for the optimal claim outcome and is fair, cost effective, consistent and expedited whether it is a settlement, subrogation or a denial.
- Travels periodically for mediations, deposition and/or trials.
- Travels periodically for binder presentations and/or meeting with claimant and/or their families.
- Uses a diary system to prompt activity for action planning.
- Ensures that claims are paid timely and accurately.
- Follows Claim Best Practices.
- Serves as on-call as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of State and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure required.
- Understanding of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations a plus.
- Ability and desire to work with limited direction and multi-task in a fast-paced and “team first” environment.
- Ability to work with and in between multiple levels of internal infrastructure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including but not limited to, proper business writing techniques and a strong command of the English language with punctuation and grammatical aptitude.
- Practical experience with Windows XP, Microsoft Office Products required (advanced knowledge of Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required). Basic knowledge of Office 365, Zoom, A/S 400 environment and risk management information systems (RMIS) such as CS Stars preferred.
- Good understanding of insurance and medical terminology required.
- Proven research and investigative skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proven analytical abilities to review and analyze data.
- Must be a self-motivating, results-driven individual, who is comfortable with change.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- 5–10 years of experience handling bodily injury and property damage claims preferred.

- Pay Range: $56,147.00-$88,833.00
- Pay Grade: 9
