AGV Operator
The AGV Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) within the warehouse. This role ensures timely movement of materials, goods, and products throughout the facility using AGV systems, while maintaining safety protocols and supporting warehouse operations. The AGV Operator will be required to load and unload trucks, supply production areas with products and/or remove finished goods to a Distribution Center storage area, troubleshoot and/or resolve issues as they arise with automated material handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor AGV systems to transport materials across designated warehouse zones.
- Perform daily inspections and preventative maintenance of AGVs to ensure optimal performance.
- Respond to AGV system alerts, troubleshooting and diagnosing minor issues, and escalate technical problems to maintenance or IT teams.
- Load and unload materials onto AGVs using appropriate equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts).
- Coordinate with warehouse staff to prioritize material movement and ensure workflow efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of transported goods and report discrepancies.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies related to AGV operation and warehouse logistics.
- Assist in training new team members on AGV operation protocols.
- May be required to operate other manual and/or automated material handling warehouse equipment such as Stand-up and Sit-down forklifts, Cherry Pickers, Pallet Jacks, etc.
- Perform quality control measures by monitoring product quality and reporting issues timely to mitigate and correct problems identified.
- Maintain baseline productivity goals daily
- Operating an RF device
- Ensure On time Shipping and Receiving
- Assist with Inventory Control team as needed
- Maintain 5S – Standards and Housekeeping
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to be trained and/or certified in trouble shooting automated material handling equipment
- Understanding of AGV systems, including navigation, control systems and communication networks.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions.
- Must possess a mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and repair minor issues with AGV equipment.
- Intermediate/Proficient skills in Microsoft Office software to include (but not limited to): Excel, word
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate powered material handling industrial trucks such as Stand-up and Sit-Down Forklifts, cherry Pickers, Pallet Jacks, etc. including how to operate and maintain (change battery, recognize common mechanical issues) required.
- Ability to work independently without supervision and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Ability to perform work in a highly organized and color-coded environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with associates at all levels of the organization
- Must possess Excellent teamwork skills
- Ability to read labels and numbers
- Ability to operate in high speed and fast-paced environment
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prior warehouse experience required
- WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) or RF Unit system experience required
- Experience with AGV systems or warehouse automation preferred.
- Basic troubleshooting, logging and reporting of issues related to AGV’s experience preferred
- Manual Intervention and operation of the AGV s experience preferred
- WCP (Warehouse Control Systems) experience preferred
- YMS (Yard Management Systems) experience preferred.
